Tait, L3Harris Amend Partnership for Nonexclusive Distribution
Tuesday, December 03, 2019 | Comments

Tait Communications and L3Harris have amended their partnership, first announced in 2016 as an exclusive distribution agreement. L3 Harris now offers nonexclusive distribution of Tait products in North America.

Tait products continue to be available in North America through Tait’s resellers, and L3Harris Tait cobranded products continue to be available via L3Harris.

“It takes the best parts of the partnership and gives customers and resellers more options for how to obtain Tait-branded products in the marketplace,” said Tait Americas Chairman Juddson Cain. “The L3Harris team is continuing to provide cobranded products.”

Any product that carries the Tait logo is designed or manufactured by Tait, and Tait resellers now have more choices for purchasing Tait products, Cain said.

“Prior to the agreement with Harris, we had a robust dealer network,” he said. “We’ve retained all those resellers and added more over the last few years. We’re pleased to say our reseller channel has gotten stronger throughout the years.”

With the amended agreement, Tait signed a master nonexclusive distribution agreement with RACOM in Iowa and Eastern Communications in New York City. RACOM’s territory is every state west of the Mississippi, along with Arkansas, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Mike Miller, president of RACOM, said he buys cobranded equipment from L3Harris or Tait equipment directly from Tait in New Zealand, depending on the customer’s preference. Miller said Tait’s Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) and conventional products are excellent, particularly Tait’s base stations. L3Harris has high-quality, robust Project 25 (P25) trunking equipment, so the product lines mesh and don’t directly complete.

“It’s a good thing if you’re a dealer and you’re competing against a Motorola Solutions dealer with a wide product line,” Miller said.

“L3Harris Technologies and Tait have enhanced our North American distribution relationship to provide increased market choice, greater access to the Tait portfolio and serve our customers in the best way possible,” said Todd Perdieu, L3Harris director of North American channels. “L3Harris continues to partner with Tait as a North American distributor and remains committed to supporting the Tait portfolio and providing our customers with the power of choice.”

Since the original agreement between then Harris and Tait, Harris merged with L3 Technologies earlier this year. In addition, Tait received a minority investment from JVCKENWOOD in December 2018. Cain said neither agreement affected the Tait and Harris partnership.
