NG 9-1-1 Self-Assessment Tool Available for 9-1-1 Officials

The SAFECOM-National Council of Statewide Interoperability Coordinators (NCSWIC) NG911 Working Group developed a next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) Self-Assessment Tool for use by state, regional and local public-safety answering point (PSAP) and emergency communications center leadership.

The tool is a detailed, easy-to-use NG 9-1-1 readiness checklist that is intended to help PSAP administrators and oversight personnel evaluate a system’s NG 9-1-1 maturity state and understand the next steps necessary to continue NG 9-1-1 deployment progress.

PSAP leadership can use the tool to strengthen their understanding of NG 9-1-1 elements, increase awareness of the NG 9-1-1 maturity continuum – a model used as part of the national NG 9-1-1 cost study to assist in planning NG 9-1-1 transition steps — and enable a consistent terminology for NG 9-1-1 maturity.

The tool translates the answers from PSAP leadership to questions into one of six maturity states: legacy, foundational, translational, intermediate, jurisdictional end state or national end state. Because the tool is downloaded and results are not collected online or in a shared database, it is solely for 9-1-1 agency leadership to use for its own internal purposes.

The tool is available here.
