2020 Winter Institute to Test and Discuss FirstNet, NG 9-1-1 Technologies

Texas A&M University (TAMU) Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center is gearing up for its Winter Institute workshop and exercise. The workshop is scheduled Jan. 27 – 29 at the TAMU Convention Center and Hotel in College Station, Texas, and the exercise is scheduled Jan. 29 – 31, at Disaster City, Texas.

The workshop will discuss the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) and the technology tools needed to be developed to ensure success. The focus areas of this year’s event are large-scale messaging; IT service unit leader (ITSL) in exercises; data interoperability; NG 9-1-1 interface to FirstNet; and identity, credential and access management (ICAM)-federated authentication.

Do you have questions about how to share messaging and data information across multiple jurisdictions, how to connect NG 9-1-1 networks to FirstNet, how we to get internet of things (IoT) sensor data to first responders, how to share drone video with collaborating jurisdictions, and how we will train the next generation of technologists?

For five years, TAMU ITEC has hosted the Winter Institute workshop and exercise. The workshop is an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences in an effort to set the ITEC 2020 research agenda. The exercise is intended for first responders, government observers and supporting vendors in a field exercise at Disaster City to evaluate the technology and provide feedback.

Learn more about the Winter Institute and register here. Space to the workshop is limited so sign up today.
