Oakland Deploys Cloud-Based Backup CAD System
Tuesday, January 14, 2020 | Comments

Oakland, California, selected a CAD solution from Motorola Solutions to help ensure the resiliency of its operations during a disaster.

In the event of an earthquake, wildfire or other disaster that disrupts the on-premises CAD system, the PremierOne disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) solution allows Oakland to have a fully functional CAD system in the cloud shortly after the agency reports the outage, enabling the creation of a virtual communications center.

“Making the move to back up our on-premise CAD operations in the cloud was essential for us,” said Andrew Peterson, chief information officer, city of Oakland. “PremierOne CAD’s cloud-based disaster recovery feature enables us to ensure geodiversity in our backup system, is cost effective versus an expensive effort to duplicate our on-premise backup system and complements our city’s vision of moving applications to the cloud.”

Oakland was the 14th agency in 2019 to select, deploy and/or upgrade to the CAD system. Other jurisdictions included Atlanta; Baltimore County, Maryland; Bowling Green, Kentucky; Cherokee County, Georgia; Glendale, Arizona; Indianapolis; Irvine, California; Little Rock, Arkansas; the Los Angeles Police Department, port of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports; St. Johns County Fire Department, Florida; and Valencia County, New Mexico.
