TETRA network operator Stadtwerke München (SWM) will use Airbus technology to again equip the 56th edition of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) with high-performance, tap-proof radio technology. The TETRA system, which has been migrated to IP technology with switch centers and a georedundant solution, will be used for the first time.

“Airbus has supported us since 2012 with extremely reliable mobile radio services,” said Benedikt Franke, MSC chief operating officer. “We have therefore decided to extend our contract with Airbus until 2021 to ensure that we have the support we need for our annual conference in Munich.”

Separate base stations will be connected to the existing SWM radio network especially for the conference. A third operational base station will be used for side events in the greater Munich area. SWM is making an Airbus radio available to conference staff and operational teams. The device is particularly suitable for undercover operations and has proved its effectiveness at the MSC for many years.

With the help of secure radio technology, both security and conference personnel, as well as Bundeswehr employees, will be able to communicate securely throughout the entire event because the radio system has special encryption features for increased security precautions.

The Munich Security Conference, founded in 1963, has become one of the key conferences for foreign affairs and security policy. Every year, it provides high-ranking decision-makers from all over the world with a forum for discussions on security policy challenges. Once again, many guests, both from Germany and from overseas, are expected to attend this year’s event.
