NPSTC Announces New Foundation Board Members
Tuesday, April 14, 2020 | Comments

The National Public Safety Telecommunications Council (NPSTC), a federation of 16 public-safety communications organizations, formed a not-for-profit foundation to potentially fund the federation's work. The NPSTC Foundation was incorporated in November and approved by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(3) organization and qualified to receive tax-deductible donations that would be exempt from federal income tax.

The NPSTC Foundation hopes to receive tax deductible donations from industry, associations and government agencies. The foundation could then provide funds to allow a limited staff to support the NPSTC working groups and committees, website, administrative tools and potentially one in-person meeting each year.

The NPSTC Foundation's mission is to support the work of NPSTC, the federation. The Foundation board will be a separate corporate board that will oversee the foundation, and it will operate independently from NPSTC.

The members of the NPSTC Foundation board include Douglas Aiken, chairman, founding member and vice chairman of NPSTC; Kevin McGinnis with National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) and founding member; Marilyn Ward, NPSTC executive director and founding member; Harlin R. McEwen, honorary president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); Alan Caldwell with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC); Terry Hall, director of emergency communications for York County, Virginia; Jim Bugel, vice president, First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) program, AT&T; and Curt Bashford, president/CEO General Devices.

“From common channel naming to development of requirements for the nationwide broadband network, NPSTC has been there to provide leadership from experts in the public-safety community,” said NPSTC Chair Ralph Haller. “The foundation will be a vehicle to keep NPSTC funded and operational. The new slate of board members could not be better. All of the board members bring a wealth of public safety, leadership and business experience and will do a great job. My congratulations and thanks to each of them."
