Motorola Offers Remote Access to P25 Network Management

Motorola Solutions announced remote access to its Project 25 (P25) ASTRO network management platform, allowing users to access network data anywhere and from any device. The upgrade also includes expanded performance and other metrics, along with enhanced security for users of the CirrusCentral system.

Paul Steinberg, Motorola senior vice president of technology, said users need ways to access network performance data without being in front of the network itself. After receiving input from 27 different users, the company deployed the updated system at five beta sites.

The subscription-based service now offers customizable notifications to system managers if there are problems or if something changes within a network. Users can monitor their networks from their smartphones and quickly see any changes.

“We’ve been working on this for a while, and it does have this side benefit for those trying to social distance,” Steinberg said.

The system tracks each site on a network and provides status bars for load. The system also tracks load over time with user-friendly graphics. The product unlocks more capability and flexibility in staffing and responsiveness. “You don’t have to have someone constantly monitoring the network if you’re getting notifications,” Steinberg said. “It’s more efficient and offers peace of mind.”

Many of the capabilities were already in the system, but the update implements them differently. The capabilities includes alarm aggregation and how data is presented to users, along with network processing.

“Sometimes people forget about the LMR side and the role it plays,” he said. “We have so much user feedback that reminds us about our users’ definite need for LMR communications. We wanted to make that user need more accessible and tailored.”
