Federal Program Releases National Road Map for NG 9-1-1
Thursday, April 30, 2020 | Comments

The National 911 Program released the “NG911 Roadmap,” a collaborative effort between the program and 9-1-1 stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. It focuses on what needs to be done at the national level to achieve a nationwide next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) system of systems.

This concept involves the existence of NG 9-1-1 capabilities at the jurisdictional level across the U.S., as well as interconnectivity and interoperability among those systems using common standards nationwide.

Among the benefits of nationwide interoperability are the ability to respond to 9-1-1 requests faster, with greater accuracy, situational awareness, resilience and consistent quality. It would enable first responders, emergency management and other public-safety entities to provide optimal service not only to their own communities but also to neighboring communities in need of additional resources or assistance. Furthermore, interconnectivity and interoperability among 9-1-1 systems positions the nation to obtain better awareness of community needs, identify trends, and evaluate how effectively U.S. residents and visitors are served.

The document outlines potential tasks to support goals around business/governance, technology, data, operations, as well as cross-cutting goals. The full document is here.
