NTIA Petitions FCC to Stay, Reconsider Ligado Networks Order
Wednesday, May 27, 2020 | Comments

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) filed a petition for stay of the FCC order authorizing Ligado Networks to begin operations. NITA also filed a petition for reconsideration or clarification requesting that concerns of harmful interference to federal government and other GPS devices be resolved.

NTIA said the petition, filed on behalf of the executive branch and particularly the departments of Defense and Transportation, satisfies the FCC’s four-part standard for granting a stay, saying there will be substantial irreparable harm if Ligado commences preparation for its terrestrial buildout.

The NITA stay petition is here, and the petition for reconsideration is here.

The petitions follow a letter from 31 senators earlier this month to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai urging the commission to reconsider the Ligado order.
