9-1-1 Outage Impacts Agencies in Multiple States
Tuesday, September 29, 2020 | Comments

Public-safety agencies across multiple U.S. states reported 9-1-1 outages the night of Sept. 28.

Just before 5 p.m. PT, the Oro Valley Police Department in Pima County, Arizona, tweeted that 9-1-1 services were temporarily down for the entire county. About 20 minutes later, the police department tweeted 9-1-1 was back up. The department noted that its text-to-9-1-1 capability remained operational during the outage.

Several other Arizona agencies also tweeted that their 9-1-1 was down for a similar period of time. Public-safety agencies in Minnesota and other states also reported similar outages. The outages appeared to last about 20-30 minutes.

It is not yet clear what caused the outages, and the full extent of states impacted by the outages is not yet clear either.
