RCA Communications Sees Continued Growth in Dealer Network

RCA Communications Systems added North Mississippi 2Way Communications and Professional Technical Assistance to its network of authorized two-way radio dealers.

Since launching a dealer expansion program in June, RCA has signed 178 new dealers in areas including Honolulu and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“North Mississippi 2Way Communications and Professional Technical Assistance possess the qualities we are looking for in our dealer network: superior regional knowledge, exceptional industry expertise and a real passion for the RCA brand,” said Ben Burns, founder and CEO of RCA Communications Systems. “These high-performing dealers are just the latest of many who are jumping on the RCA train, and showing their clients and local industry that the RCA brand is the most trusted name in two-way radio equipment.”

The two dealers each have more than 30 years experience in selling two-way radio equipment to schools, construction firms, public-safety entities and manufacturing facilities. Professional Technical Assistance was found in 1987 by Gary Rhodes and provides Project 25 (P25) two-way radio equipment to public-safety departments throughout East Texas.

“I really like the RCA P25 mobile and portable radio equipment,” Rhodes said. “I sell a bunch of these radios to local fire departments and police departments.”

Burns said that RCA has seen growth in its dealer network following litigation and legislation involving Hytera Communications. In March 2017, Motorola Solutions initiated a series of lawsuits against Hytera in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

In November 2018, the ITC released a final determination finding Hytera had infringed several Motorola Solutions patents and in February, a jury for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois awarded Motorola $764.4 million in damages after determining that Hytera had stolen Motorola trade secrets. Motorola is currently seeking a permanent injunction against Hytera that would prevent it from selling and distributing products determined to include Motorola’s trade secrets.

Hytera has also been named in federal legislation that limit federal agencies from purchasing products from companies with close ties to the Chinese government.

Burns said that these events have opened up new demand in the two-way radio market as dealers seek an alternative to Hytera. That combined with RCA efforts provide strong customer service and a strong RCA product has helped grow RCA’s network, he said.

“After what happened with Hytera, I needed to find another radio brand that was equal in size, value and durability,” said Jennifer McGee, sales manager with North Mississippi 2Way Communications. “So, we started selling RCA radios, especially for schools. They are perfect because they are easy to use and reliable. You have to understand, schools rely on our knowledge; they trust us. So we can go in and tell them this is what we are using now, and they trust our knowledge and they trust our decisions.”

As part of its strategy to bring on new dealers, along with a focus on customer service, RCA also introduced the RDR26X0 two-way radio, which is built and assembled in the U.S.

“We’re an American company, and RCA’s radio technology was one of the first to be introduced to the United States,” said Burns. “Our new radio line will help employ more than 50 workers as they assemble all of the radio’s components right here in our Southern California state-of-the-art assembly facility.”
