CenturyLink Reaches Settlement with FCC Over 2018 Outage

The FCC Enforcement Bureau and CenturyLink entered into a consent decree to resolve an investigation into a multistate outage of one of CenturyLink’s transport networks that occurred December 27-28, 2018.

As part of the settlement, CenturyLink agreed to pay $500,000. The outage lasted approximately 37 hours and prevented CenturyLink from delivering some 9-1-1 calls during that time. An FCC report found that at least 886 calls to 9-1-1 were not delivered.
