FCC Adopts Rules to Prevent 9-1-1 Fee Diversion
Tuesday, June 29, 2021 | Comments

The FCC adopted a report and order that adopts rules to help prevent diversion of 9-1-1 fees to uses besides 9-1-1 by states and other taxing jurisdictions.

In December, Congress passed the Don’t Break Up the T-band Act, which among other things, directed the FCC to make changes to its rules to help eliminate 9-1-1 fee diversion. The adopted report and order aims to fill those requirements.

The new rules clarify what does and does not constitute 9-1-1 fee diversion, establish a declaratory ruling process for providing further guidance to states and taxing jurisdictions on fee diversion issues, and codify the specific obligations and restrictions that the legislation imposes on states and taxes.

Find the full report and order here.
