The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) announced the election of Igal Elbaz, senior vice president, engineering and operations at AT&T Services, as chair of its board of directors.

The board of directors brings together C-level executives from the information communications technologies (ICT) companies to set the organization’s strategic, technical and operational direction. As board chair, Elbaz assumes the leadership role from Andre Fuetsch of AT&T, who served as chair of the ATIS board for the last six years.

Igal joins the newly re-elected board officers: First Vice Chair David Young, vice president, public policy at Verizon; Second Vice Chair Mark Hess, senior vice president, business and industry affairs at Comcast Cable; Secretary Karri Kouppamaki, senior vice president, network technology development and strategy at T-Mobile USA; and Treasurer Stephen Alexander, senior vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) at Ciena. Also, Chris Drake, executive vice president and CTO at iconectiv, was re-elected chair of ATIS’ Technology and Operations Council. Terms for these two-year positions will begin January 1.

“ATIS welcomes Igal Elbaz as our new board chair,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “Igal will continue to bring a combination of deep technology acumen and impactful business leadership to his role as board chair that will serve ATIS well into the future. The strong stature of our board officers reflects the senior executives on our full board and their commitment to ATIS and the value it delivers our members.”

Also, at the recent meeting of the ATIS Members, the following members were elected to serve on the ATIS board for two-year terms effective January 1: Telnyz CEO David Casem, 10x People CEO Lisa Marie Maxson and Christian Militeau who is head of product, cloud communications and emergency services at Bandwidth.
