Senate Committee Advances Rosenworcel’s FCC Chair Nomination

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation voted in favor of Jessica’s Rosenworcel’s nomination as FCC chairwoman. The nomination now moves onto the full Senate for confirmation.

President Joe Biden named Rosenworcel acting FCC chairwoman following the resignation of former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai in January. In October, Biden nominated Rosenworcel to fill the position permanently.

Multiple industry organizations, including the Utilities Technology Council (UTC), NATE and the Wireless Industry Association (WIA) expressed support for the committee’s vote.

“I fully support today’s vote by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation to advance the nomination of Acting Chair of the Federal Communications Commission, Jessica Rosenworcel, to the Senate floor for a full vote,” said UTC President and CEO Sheryl Osiene Riggs. “If confirmed by the Senate, Ms. Rosenworcel will be first female permanent chair of the FCC where her depth of legal and technical knowledge will make her a smart and experienced leader. UTC is looking forward to a speedy confirmation by the Senate, so that Chairwoman Rosenworcel can continue her work of bringing affordable, reliable broadband access to all Americans.”
