Motorola Solutions provided Swisscom a next generation, Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)-standards-compliant push-to-talk (PTT) solution, enabling the Swiss telecommunications provider to offer an instant communication service to its business customers. The new PTT service connects individuals and groups instantaneously over Swisscom’s broadband network and allows it to offer priority usage to critical users in emergency situations.

“Communication is critical for business continuity and to address crisis situations,” said Fredy Portmann, head of mission and business-critical communication at Swisscom. “This new service gives our business customers the advantage of instant push-to-talk communication with a wide range of additional functionalities to connect and coordinate their teams. As Switzerland’s leading operator and one of its key IT companies, this service exemplifies our commitment to our customers to provide advanced technologies supported by the highest quality service.”

Zermatt Bergbahnen, a cable car company, is one of the first companies using the new solution to improve operational efficiency and safety across 200 kilometers of pistes in the Matterhorn mountain area. Its staff will rely on the new PTT service to communicate and share information in support of daily operations, such as patrolling slopes, as well as to manage critical rescue efforts in emergency situations. Zermatt Bergbahnen will also benefit from the wide range of multimedia features including push-to-video, push-to-text, geo-location, geo-fencing, device sharing and operational status message features.

"We are setting new standards in the industry with a pioneering spirit," said Kurt Guntli, head of engineering and deputy CEO, Zermatt Bergbahnen.

As part of the contract, Motorola Solutions is also providing a range of rugged devices, including the TLK100, Evolve and LEX L11, which are designed to withstand harsh environments, deliver exceptional audio quality with noise cancelation and have dedicated PTT and emergency buttons for intuitive use. Industries including security, transportation, construction, utilities, healthcare and public services use Motorola’s PTT solution.

“We see growing demand from businesses that need to connect their teams via reliable, easy-to-use PTT services in the field,'' said Michael Kaae, corporate vice president of sales for Europe, Israel, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Motorola Solutions. “Our proven business-critical broadband PTT platform delivers best-in-class performance in terms of cost efficiency, reliability, scalability, voice quality and the wide range of advanced features it offers. We are looking forward to supporting Swisscom’s customers as they adopt this service.”
