Nationwide EAS Test to Last 30 Seconds (11/4/11)
Friday, November 04, 2011 | Comments

The nationwide emergency alert system (EAS) test Nov. 9 will be 30 seconds, the FCC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said. A 30-second test will allow the agencies to effectively assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a way to alert the public of national emergencies with limited disruption to the public, a statement said.

A revised handbook reflecting the new 30-second test length was posted at www.fcc.gov/nationwideeastest.
