What began as a small wildfire in the area quickly raged out of control fueled by high, shifting winds and record draught conditions to become a wildfire that consumed more than 34,000 acres. HPVFD, along with countless local and national firefighters, fought the flames day and night; many of their own homes were destroyed.
The TV program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will build a new home for one HPVFD firefighter, Mizzy Zdroj, and improve the Heart of Pines fire station. Motorola Solutions will donate 22 APX radios and remote speaker microphones.
The episode will air in December 2012. The build location is 674 Cottletown Rd., Smithville, Texas.
