FCC Activates Disaster Reporting System for Carriers (10/30/12)
Tuesday, October 30, 2012 | Comments

The FCC activated the Disaster Information Reporting Systems (DIRS) in response to Hurricane Sandy. DIRS is a voluntary, Web-based system that communications providers can use to report communications infrastructure status and situational awareness information during times of crisis.

The FCC requested the providers in the area of the hurricane to submit and update information, including the status of their communications equipment, restoration efforts, power and access to fuel, beginning Oct. 30 and every day after that until DIRS is deactivated.
