NTIA Creates Public-Safety Office (11/27/12)
Tuesday, November 27, 2012 | Comments

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) created the Office of Public Safety Communications. The office will oversee the $135 million state and local implementation grant program authorized under the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012.

Earlier this year, NTIA officials said the grant application process will begin in the first quarter of 2013.

An NTIA spokesperson said the office will also help the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) board of directors with procurements and any other assistance that NTIA requests. Stephen Fletcher, former chief information officer (CIO) for the state of Utah, is chief of the office. The deputy chief is Laura Pettus.
