Monday, March 04, 2013 | Comments

Thales will supply its Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system technology for the new Ottawa Light Rail Transit (LRT) Confederation Line. Thales will design, build, maintain the systems, and support its installation and commissioning.

The Ottawa east-west Confederation Line is 12.5 kilometers long and serves 13 stations. It is scheduled to open in 2018 and will be designed and built by the Rideau Transit Group consortium. The CBTC system is semi-automated, which includes automatic train supervision and protection technology to assist drivers with safe and reliable operation. The train storage yard will be fully automated allowing driverless capability.
