Mobile Devices, Apps Are Priority for Public-Safety Officials, Says Survey (3/5/13)

The public's use of smart devices and public-safety mobile applications is an agency priority for 63 percent of public-safety officials and IT executives who responded to a national survey conducted by the Public Technology Institute (PTI). The survey was conducted in February.

Rounding out the top three priority areas are local, state and federal funding/grant opportunities (59.5 percent) and budgetary issues/doing more with less (51 percent).

The results of the survey “reinforce the evolution of technology solutions as an integral part of public-safety operations and service delivery,” said Council Chair Wesley Reid, director of Guilford (N.C.) Metro 9-1-1.

The survey was conducted under the direction of PTI’s Public Safety Technology Council, a committee of public-safety professionals representing PTI member city and county governments.

“The survey reinforced that funding and budgetary issues are still of major concern for so many of our local government members,“ said PTI Executive Director Alan Shark.
