TIA Asks for Volunteers for Revised IS Portable Radio Standard (4/18/13)

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-8.21 Engineering Committee on Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Intrinsic Safety (IS) Consideration issued a call for interest for document TIA-4950-A initially titled "Requirements for Battery-Powered, Portable Land Mobile Radio Applications in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classified) Locations.” This revision effort, by TR-8.12, intends to further enhance the focus of this document on portable two-way radio applications.

Earlier this month, TIA released a new standard to certify portable radios used in hazardous location environments.

“The revision will solidify document coverage of the new technologies used in portable LMR today,” said a TIA press release.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to, IS practitioners and LMR manufacturers. TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities. To inquire about participating in TIA standards developing efforts, please contact the TIA Technology & Standards Department at 703-907-7000 or via e-mail at standards@tiaonline.org.

A major function of TIA is writing and maintaining voluntary industry standards and specifications. The volunteer members of TIA engineering committees carry out these activities.
