CalTrain, a California based passenger railway, took delivery of 57 Ritron narrowband RCCR locomotive radios. The order included a mix of one-piece and two-piece models. The contract award was made to Ritron’s reseller, Day Wireless.

CalTrain, headquartered in San Carlos, Calif., is a 79-mile California commuter rail line on the San Francisco peninsula. The line extends from San Francisco on the north to Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley) and Gilroy on the south.

The radio purchase was in response to the FCC Jan. 1 deadline requiring radio users to switch from wideband technology to narrowband radio technology. The radio model purchased by CalTrain is also future upgradeable to the established Class 1 freight railroad standard, NXDN digital.
