Residents of the greater District of Columbia metro region can now sign up for the Alert DC emergency text alerting system using a rapid enrollment process. With rapid enrollment, anyone with a cellular device can quickly register to receive text alerts, powered by the Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN). D.C. Emergency Management Agency (DCEMA) personnel will continue to send all-hazards and important emergency notifications to the public via e-mail, pager, text messaging, and XM satellite radio. The new service makes it easier to sign up for the alerts because residents don't need access to the Internet or e-mail to sign up for alerts.
