Hytera Mobilfunk delivered a secure TETRA mobile radio system for the new metro line M4 in Budapest, Hungary. The contract was awarded by its partner Siemens Convergence Creators Austria.

The metro in Budapest is the second-oldest metro system in Europe and was officially put into operation in 1896 with line M1. The new line M4 will connect southwest Budapest (Buda) to northeastern Budapest (Pest) and is to be completed in 2014. It will be the first metro in Hungary that will be operated fully automatically.

The TETRA system provides secure voice communications for employees and a powerful data exchange between the train-borne applications and the operation control center (OCC). Integrator of the TETRA system and supplier of the dispatching system and the train borne communications devices is Siemens Convergence Creators, and the main contractor is Siemens Mobility and Logistics, Rail Automation in Germany.

The system comprises the latest technology from Hytera Mobilfunk, including four TETRA base stations, two IP nodes for centralized switching in a redundant configuration, an application interface and a comprehensive network management system (NMS).
