Ritron Order for Narrowband Radios from Long Island Railroad (8/27/13)
Tuesday, August 27, 2013 | Comments

Ritron delivered an order of 59 of its narrowband analog locomotive radios valued at $200,000 to the Long Island Railroad in Hollis, N.Y. The procurement was awarded in March to Ritron dealer Diversified Electronics Systems in Forest Park, Ga.

The Long Island Railroad is a commuter rail system serving the length of Long Island, from Manhattan to the easternmost tip of Suffolk County, N.Y. It is the second busiest commuter railroad in North America.

The purchase included Ritron's RCCR one-piece, narrowband-capable model. The same radio is future upgradeable to the accepted Class 1 railroad digital transmission standard, NXDN digital. The FCC established a January 2013 deadline for radio users to switch from wideband analog technology to narrowband analog or digital radio technology.
