The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) released two text-to-9-1-1 papers for public-safety answering points (PSAPs) and 9-1-1 authorities.

The first paper, “Is Text-to-9-1-1 Right for My PSAP?,” was created to provide PSAPs and 9-1-1 entities a list of topics and questions to consider when deciding whether to accept the interim solution text-to-9-1-1 calls. Considerations include technology questions to ask vendors and carriers, jurisdictional considerations, liability considerations, financial questions and operational questions for before and during implementation.

The second paper, FAQ for Interim Text-to-9-1-1 Solution, was created to provide additional information when deciding when and how to accept interim solution short message service (SMS) text-to-9-1-1 calls. The paper includes an overview of the solutions, including text to TTY/TDD, Web portal and next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) interface, and then a list of frequently asked operational and technical questions and answers.

Both documents are available here.
