Alaska Announces FirstNet Opt-In Decision
Thursday, August 31, 2017 | Comments

Alaska Gov. Bill Walker announced his decision to opt in to the state plan for a public-safety Long Term Evolution (LTE) network from the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) and AT&T.

"Opting in to FirstNet is an important step to ensure that Alaska's first responders can communicate when seconds can mean the difference between life and death," said Walker. "Putting this technology in the hands of our public-safety personnel brings us closer to building a safer Alaska."

The network will connect first responder subscribers at large-scale events, such as the Alaska State Fair in Palmer and the Iditarod Sled Dog Race that stretches from Anchorage to Nome. A statement said AT&T will enhance network coverage across Alaska's diverse landscape including the state's rural and tribal areas.
