Second MCPTT Plugtests Event Set for Texas in June
Thursday, February 15, 2018 | Comments

The second MCPTT Plugtests event will be hosted by Texas A&M University (TAMU) June 25 – 29 in College Station, Texas, USA. The goal of the MCPTT Plugtests event is to validate the interoperability of different mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT) implementations on the market using different scenarios and test cases.

MCPTT was specified in Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 13. 3GPP Release 14 added mission-critical data (MCData) and mission-critical video (MCVideo).

Interoperability and mission-critical service harmonization are critical challenges to be taken into account for the successful deployment and operation of mission-critical communications. The interoperability of MCPTT, MCData and MCVideo products and services has not been previously tested in the U.S.

The tests will be based on 3GPP, European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards. The event is designed for vendors of user equipment (UE), evolved packet core (EPC), mission-critical application servers and clients, multimedia broadcast multicast service (eMBMS), session initiation protocol (SIP)/IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), control rooms and test equipment.

The purpose and scope of the event are to trial independently and jointly all components of the mission-critical communications chain. Participants can assess the level of interoperability of their implementations, validate understanding of the standards and test with other real implementations and demonstrate end-to-end interoperability. The event will also debug participants’ implementations and promote the technology and the ecosystem.

ETSI organizes the event with TCCA, Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR), TAMU and the European Commission. The first MCPTT Plugtests event was held last June at ETSI’s headquarters in France.
