Sweden’s Telia Joins TCCA

Telia, the Swedish telecom operator with operations across Europe and Asia, announced its membership in TCCA, a global association for critical communications.

Once critical broadband standards are in place by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), commercial mobile network infrastructure can be leveraged to deliver mission-critical services, TCCA said in a statement. “The critical communications market is beginning to open up to commercial operators,” TCCA said. “Currently, dedicated national narrowband critical communications networks are operated by government-controlled organizations. … Standards are essential to ensure the resilience, features and interoperability required by critical communications users.”

The advent of critical broadband will provide new business opportunities for commercial mobile network operators, whether they are looking to enter the critical communications market as sole provider or partner with existing professional mobile radio (PMR) critical communications operators to complement existing narrowband services.

“For more than 160 years, Telia has connected Sweden with the latest technology,” said Patrik Olsson, head of special network security, Telia Sweden. “With the country’s largest fiber network and best mobile network, we are more than ready to develop the next-level critical communications solutions for our customers.”

Telia was founded in 1853 and has operations in Azerbaijan, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Sweden, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Telia, along with Deutsche Telekom, are the only two commercial network operators that are members of TCCA.
