Harris XL Radios Integrated with 3M Scott SCBA Equipment

Harris’s XL line of radios now can be integrated with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) solutions provided by 3M Scott Fire and Safety.

The Harris XL-200P and XL-185P radios can now use Bluetooth 4.0-compliant technology to route audio to and from SCBA units, enhancing fire scene communications and improving worker safety. The radios’ software-defined architecture allows existing XL radio users to add the capability with a free software update.

A microphone is located inside the mask, and audio is routed to the radio and out to users. The Radio Direct Interface (RDI) technology can be used with SCBAs and other 3M breathing apparatus systems. The system also allows the user to set variables on the radio to enhance voice communications for the user's particular situation.

“This new Bluetooth SCBA capability, and others like it, are enabled in part by our numerous partnerships with leading providers such as 3M Scott Fire and Safety,” said Ryan Carson, director, product line management and strategy, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. “Harris is continually seeking partner solutions to strengthen our ecosystem and improve first responder capabilities.”

Harris radio users must update their software to access the integration with 3M Scott, and 3M Scott users will receive a code to take advantage of the new offering.
