FCC Seeks Power Company Input on Wireless Resiliency Framework
Friday, January 04, 2019 | Comments

The FCC released the second public notice in a series that solicits input on the efficacy of the wireless resiliency cooperative framework. Announced in April 2016, the framework is a voluntary wireless industry commitment intended to promote resilient communications and situational awareness during disasters.

The FCC has taken several steps to re-examine the framework for purposes of restoring communications during and following disasters. The notice continues the commission’s line of inquiry into the framework’s effectiveness and builds upon the record received following the 2017 and 2018 Atlantic hurricane seasons.

The FCC now seeks information to help identify actions the commission, communications providers and power companies can cooperatively take to encourage and increase coordination in the power and communications sectors, before, during and after an emergency or disaster. In addition to stakeholders in the communications and power sectors, the FCC wants to hear from industry and governments at all levels, as well as from consumers, including people with disabilities and those who may be disproportionately affected by communications outages, and any other interested stakeholders.

Comments are due Feb. 2, and reply comments are due Feb. 17. The notice is here.
