Indiana Selects AT&T ESInet for 9-1-1 Services for 60% of State’s Population

The Indiana Statewide 9-1-1 Board has selected AT&T to help modernize legacy 9-1-1 systems across the state. Through the collaboration, AT&T will replace outdated 9-1-1 infrastructure with AT&T emergency services IP network (ESInet) covering more than 60% of Indiana’s 6.6 million citizens.

The next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) platform will offer next-generation call routing and other advanced services.

AT&T ESInet is an IP-based call-routing platform that will help public-safety answering points (PSAPs) support pictures and video sent from mobile devices in the future. These features could provide more information to first responders to help deliver a faster response to people in distress.

In addition, AT&T ESInet provides alternative routing to neighboring PSAPs. This provides backup support for overloaded PSAPs at peak times or during emergencies, making it easier for PSAPs to be more responsive and provide more reliable service to citizens.

The Indiana Statewide 9-1-1 Board is working with INdigital to support the remaining PSAPs across the state. Together, the board, AT&T and INdigital are working to enhance 9-1-1 communications.

“Indiana has always pursued new and innovative ways to provide one of the best 9-1-1 systems in the country,” said Ed Reuter, executive director, Indiana Statewide 9-1-1 board. “We are pleased with the collaboration between AT&T and INdigital as they buildout two redundant networks for NG 9-1-1 services. Having geographically separated sites allows us to continue functioning and routing calls in the event of a system failure.”
