Comtech Solacom Technologies announced two new 9-1-1 contracts. First, Solacom was selected to provide a Guardian next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) call-handling solution to the Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS), an intergovernmental consolidated emergency dispatch system providing 9-1-1 services for several communities in northwest suburban Chicago.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The NWCDS center, covering more than 170 square miles, serves a population of nearly 500,000, handling an average of 1,677 telephone calls per day and dispatching about 246,000 calls for service annually. The NWCDS center consists of 11 member police and fire departments.

NWCDS will receive Guardian Intelligent 9-1-1 Workstations (IWS), which are next generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) call-taking positions designed to maximize the effectiveness of call-taking. The product is also engineered to support text to 9-1-1 or exchanging video, photos and data with call-takers or first responders. The system is designed to easily become part of a statewide emergency service IP network (ESInet) once it becomes available.

Solacom also signed an agreement worth $6.6 million to upgrade a statewide NG 9-1-1 system for a New England state. The contract includes the upgrade of many core elements of the ESInet and the 9-1-1 call-handling equipment.
