In 2020, the three governments and others submitted projects that the council judged on whether they would make a difference regionally and be replicable by other cities, globally. The three cities agreed to work with the council to accelerate their own plans and help other cities globally.
During 2020, Nashville worked on mitigating the impact of urban flooding and passed a $1.5 billion transportation plan. The city, along with the council and a global network of experts, plans to continue refining its plan to mitigate the impact of urban flooding. The city plans to deliver a road map for review by city leaders that can also be replicated by other cities.
Orange County proposed a smart and healthy building project that includes 530 buildings in the county and plans to expand the work to 11 other cities in the county, including Winter Park and Orlando.
Brisbane is working to explore how innovation, technology and data can help accelerate the city’s progress towards achieving broader goals of livability, sustainability and prosperity. The ability to collect accurate and timely data provides the foundations for the Brisbane City Council to make informed decisions. The significant geographic spread of the Brisbane Local Government Area means the council has thousands of kilometers of land and assets to manage, which in turn requires a sophisticated data collection plan. Brisbane’s City Council is in the process of implementing several initiatives to support the collection of operational and city data.
The council also recognized Colorado Springs, Colorado; Morrisville, North Carolina; Omaha; Nebraska; Palmdale, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Moscow, Russia; and Santa Catarina, Mexico, as Readiness Challenge finalists.
