The National Public Safety Telecommunications Council (NPSTC) submitted comments supporting a Globalstar request for the FCC to issue a notice of inquiry (NOI) into the cause of Globalstar experiencing a 2 dB rise in the noise floor of its licensed 5 GHz spectrum. The FCC has allowed unlicensed use on a shared basis in the 5 GHz band, and Globalstar requested the NOI to gather additional information and help determine the cause.

A Florida magistrate judge denied a preliminary injunction request from Sprint to stop Florida-based Nextel World (NW) and Retrobrands from selling radio products under the Nextel name. Judge Lurana Snow cited Sprint’s delay in requesting the injunction and failure to prove that there was a likelihood that Sprint will prevail on the merits of its case, two components required in determining if an injunction is appropriate.

RADWIN donated its wireless broadband equipment to assist in the rescue mission of 12 boys and their football coach who are trapped in a cave complex in northern Thailand. The 12 boys and their coach went missing 23 June after being trapped in a flooded cave in the Chiang Rai province in Thailand. Search teams and divers found the boys 2 July, and rescue operations are underway to extract them from the caves.
