The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) is starting to become a reality, so authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) must consider the wide-ranging ramifications of implementing the new mission-critical broadband data service and how it will affect in-building communications for first responders, building owners, facility managers and tenants.

In its newly released report on public-safety distributed antennas systems (DAS) and the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), ABI Research examines the features being implemented by AT&T for FirstNet, discusses the requirements for in-building FirstNet wireless coverage and makes strategic recommendations to building owners/managers, equipment vendors, system integrators and neutral hosts.

In a letter to shareholders, Westell Technologies touted its vision to target public-safety communications, saying it has introduced new products specifically for public safety and has other new products slated for release later this year.
