Nokia and Telefónica Peru signed a contract with Minera Las Bambas, the world’s ninth-largest copper mine, to enable digitalization and automation projects at its site in Apurimac, Peru. The contract will build and deploy a private Long Term Evolution (LTE) network 4,600 meters above sea level, then assess the mine applications to begin service migration to the new network.

This often has to take place while on the move and in less-than-ideal circumstances. Public-safety users cannot tolerate dropped calls or slow applications because of congested networks. The dedicated First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) exists to ensure that first responders can make calls and access the data they need, with the best cellular connectivity available.
