The FCC waived the narrowbanding requirement for six months for Belington Emergency Squad, West Virginia, to enable Belington to obtain “quiet zone” approval.

Thurston County, Washington, completed implementation of its public-safety 9-1-1 system that supports radio communications for the county’s 1,600 police, fire and EMS users. The system features 13 radio consoles for 9-1-1 dispatchers, radio and equipment for the 9-1-1 tower, and 22 remote radio sites, which also ensured that the county met the FCC’s narrowbanding requirements.

The first buildout deadline for the state 700 MHz licenses is fast approaching - June 13, 2014. Under the license requirements, by June 13, each state licensee must provide or be "prepared to provide" substantial service to one-third of the state population or territory.
